Russian Defense Ministry claims to have intercepted 117 Ukrainian drones in night attack

The Russian Defense Ministry has reported a large-scale drone attack on military targets on Russian territory, claiming that over 100 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were intercepted.

According to a statement on the ministry’s Telegram channel: “Last night… air defense systems destroyed four tactical missiles and 117 fixed-wing UAVs.”

The ministry provided a breakdown of alleged wiretapping activities in several Russian regions.

“According to reports, 37 drones and four missiles were destroyed over Kursk Oblast, another 37 UAVs over Voronezh Oblast,” was the explanation.

It further said that 17 drones were shot down over Belgorod, eleven over Nizhny Novgorod, nine over Volgograd, three over Bryansk, two over Oryol and one over Rostov Oblast.

Russian Telegram channels had previously reported attacks on three Russian airfields. There were reports of a drone attack on the Savasleiyka military airfield in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, from where MiG-31K fighter jets operate. The Baltimore military airfield in Voronezh was also reportedly hit, resulting in a fire. Local media reported drone attacks and explosions in Borisoglebsk in Voronezh Oblast. Residents claimed that a military airfield was on fire after a drone attack.

The Russian Defense Ministry has not commented on the consequences of the drone strikes or their interceptions. This silence on possible damage or casualties is in line with the ministry’s usual practice.

At the time of reporting, there was no official comment from Ukraine on these alleged attacks.
