An Israeli airstrike hit a pickup truck traveling in northeastern Lebanon late Tuesday night, two security sources said. ReutersOne of the sources said it was transporting military equipment.
The two sources said the attack hit a pickup truck near Chaat, a remote region in Lebanon near the Syrian border, but the driver survived.
According to one of the sources, the military equipment being transported was probably a damaged rocket launcher that was on its way for repairs.
Two days earlier, one of the fiercest exchanges of fire in the last ten months had taken place between the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah and the Israeli military over fears that the Israeli war in the Gaza Strip could escalate into a larger regional conflict.
To avenge the death of a senior military commander killed by Israel last month, Hezbollah fired drones and rockets at Israel early Sunday.
Israel’s statement
Israel said its strikes on Lebanon on Sunday destroyed Hezbollah rocket launchers and prevented a larger attack by the group. Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said the attack went as planned and that subsequent Israeli strikes had damaged some Hezbollah rocket launchers.
On Tuesday, a UN peacekeeping force announced Reuters that a rocket launch had been detected near one of its positions in southern Lebanon.
