August 27, 2024 // Franchising.com // RENO, NV – Reno, Nevada is about to get a whole lot sweeter! Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream is opening a new location at 13987 South Virginia Street in the Shayden Summit Mall. The grand opening celebration will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at 11 a.m. The first 100 people in line will receive free ice cream for a year!

Handel’s Reno will be a family-owned business run by franchisees Andy and Susie Nava and Andy’s sister Cristina Ferguson.

Ferguson has lived in Reno for 35 years and is excited to bring Handel’s to the community. Along with her husband Shaune, a deputy with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, and their two children, Cristina is excited to partner with a brand.

“My brother and I had been talking about opening a store and planning our retirement goals for several years. Every time I visited him in Texas, we would go to Handel’s and I would fall in love with the taste of the banana cream pie. I always thought, ‘How can I bring this to Reno?’ Soon enough, we were talking to Handel’s,” said Ferguson, co-owner of Handel’s Reno. “When we learned about Handel’s, we saw that they shared our family-oriented values and were drawn to their nostalgia. Ice cream is a joy and I love seeing the people light up in the store – kids and adults rediscovering that childlike wonder.”

Handel’s Reno is a convenience store open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., offering pickup, delivery and catering services, as well as an inviting patio. Guests can enjoy a variety of handcrafted flavors including Banana Cream Pie, Blue Monster, Buckeye, Graham Central Station, Coconut Caramel Delight and more.

“We love Reno and believe the community will fall in love with Handel’s as much as we do. We are excited to bring this heritage brand to the area and support and partner with local schools, teams and organizations,” added Ferguson.
