American Murder: Laci Peterson – Review | Netflix documentary series

A heartbreaking tragedy

With American Murder: Laci Petersonwe get the final investigation into the murder of Laci Peterson. That is what it is being called, and I can’t say it is not entirely accurate.

Laci Peterson was a vibrant and popular young woman we get to know through footage and memories of her loved ones. She was eight months pregnant with her first child when she disappeared on Christmas Eve 2002.

This case is disturbing in many ways. Every time a new detail or fact about her husband, Scott Peterson, came to light, it made my stomach turn. He doesn’t seem evil or sinister, but his actions certainly do. Not unlike Ted Bundy.

In fact, I almost feel like people describing a male suspect as a “charming man” immediately make me suspicious. Especially when they are neighbors and his blood relatives; people who only know what he wants to show them. or have the feeling of knowing him completely. The latter can often forgive or ignore far too much.

So many key interviews

In this documentary we also hear from Amber Frey. She was the woman with whom Scott was living a double life at the time of Laci’s disappearance. Although Amber Frey was dragged through the proverbial mud, she was the one who contacted and helped law enforcement, leading to major breakthroughs in the case.

For the first time since Laci’s heartbreaking death, her mother, Sharon Rocha, also speaks about her daughter and the case. In addition, three of Laci’s childhood friends share their memories of Laci. The goal of Laci’s “people” is to prevent other women from getting into a similar situation.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Scott’s conviction, and he maintains his innocence. After watching the three episodes of this docuseries, I must admit that I find it very difficult to believe him.
